Twitter launches its own TikTok-style For You page

Twitter is taking steps to create a similar experience to the For You page, similar to what TikTok is offering. The social media app, which has had a tumultuous year over the past year to say the least, is changing users’ default feeds with two new tabs.

So far, Twitter has allowed users to switch between an algorithm timeline and the reverse chronological timeline. Now the feed will be split into two tabs: For You and Following. When the app is opened for the first time, as reported by The Verge, the For You tab appears first. That means trending topics and recommendations make up the new Twitter homepage, a format shared by TikTok.

This isn’t the first time a competing social media app — including Twitter — has replicated TikTok’s capabilities. It remains to be seen how this particular change will be received by users and how much it may impact the experience with the app. Social media analyst Matt Navarra shared a screenshot of the update, writing that the app is a “really crappy version of TikTok.”

Elon Musk, the controversial owner of Twitter, tweeted about the change among other updates, stressing that it was “part of a much larger user interface overhaul.”

Tabs are introduced first in iOS. The old feed as we know it is still available on Android and the web.

Twitter is going to see a lot of changes over the next year, and there’s a chance these won’t lead to improvements. If necessary, there are always alternatives to the once popular Vogel app.
