Russell Wilson ended the 2022 season on a positive note while leading the Broncos to a 31-28 win over rivals AFC West Charger On Sunday.
The veteran quarterback went 13 of 24 for 283 yards and threw three touchdown passes and one interception. The signal-caller from Denver, who came to the franchise with high expectations ahead of this season, produced his worst NFL season, finishing 4-11 as a starter and suffering double-digit losses for the first time in his career.
The nine-time Pro Bowler also recorded a career-low 16 touchdown passes in season 22. With that in mind, his wife Ciara described her husband’s first season in the Mile High City as a “roller coaster ride.” However, the Grammy-winning songwriter remains confident that Wilson will improve and bounce back in campaign 23.
“I’ve seen you endure so much and hold your head high.” Ciara wrote in an Instagram post. “Your faith, faith and confidence never wavered! I’ve heard a lot of things people say you’re not, but what I do know is that a winner is someone who gets back up when they’re knocked down, someone who doesn’t stop believing. Someone who accepts adversity while remaining neutral. Someone who is not influenced by the words or opinions of others. Someone who loves to love others, serve others and always be there for their family. You are all that! You always win!”
“I know this season hasn’t been exactly what you imagined and wished for, but I’m sure the best is yet to come! Stay #3! #BroncosWin #Winning.”
After Sunday’s win over Los Angeles, Wilson described 22 as a humbling season. However, he also shared that he will start improving his game from Monday.
While Wilson will remain the Broncos’ quarterback, he will be looking to take his game to new heights for a new coach after Denver fired Nathaniel Hackett on Dec. 26, just 15 games into his tenure as head of the franchise. The Broncos finished the season 5-12, marking the team’s worst record since 2010.
