Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Ti has been listed by an Italian retailer with a January 5 release date.
If true, it means the third Lovelace graphics card is only a month away from hitting shelves – but of course we should take such a leak with a lot of skepticism.
That said, it backs up previous spins of the rumor mill that brought up a January 5 sale date for the RTX 4070 Ti, so this isn’t the first time we’ve been treated to this prediction.
The retailer in question is Drako, as stated by French tech site Cowcotland (opens in new tab) (via Wccftech (opens in new tab)), with the card listed being an Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF. However, in the last hour, the Italian retailer has removed the listing and the link no longer works.
Further speculation here from Cowcotland claims that the RTX 4070 Ti will be announced the day before it goes on sale, ie January 4th. But that doesn’t fit with the fact that Nvidia has a GeForce event on January 3rd at CES 2023, which surely has to be where the new Lovelace GPU will be unveiled (indeed, if it’s revealed).
Analysis: growing likelihood that the RTX 4070 Ti is imminent
It’s worth noting that Drako rather oddly stated ‘O12G, 16GB GDDR6X’ in the product listing title, but under the specs for the GPU it clearly stated 12GB VRAM. Of course, this is the 12GB found in the canceled lower RTX 4080 that never was, of which this RTX 4070 Ti is essentially a disguised version as we’ve discussed in the past. Presumably the mention of 16GB was an error in the product title (of course it also said ’12G’, which stands for 12 Gigabytes).
No other spec information was given by the now-gone product listing, and under the CUDA Cores amount, the retailer just said “to be announced,” so we were still in the dark there. Well, not entirely in the dark, as the rumor mill has floated the idea that the RTX 4070 Ti will run with 7,680 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory bus, along with a TDP of 285W.
With regard to January 5, this could be a case where the Italian retailer guessed a date, or in other words, it was a placeholder – perhaps taking the aforementioned date out of the rumor mill and using that. We just don’t know, but another piece of evidence suggesting the RTX 4070 Ti isn’t far off is an application from multiple Gigabyte models of the card that was recently unearthed.
Plus, given that this is sort of a relaunch of that lower end RTX 4080 spin – or that’s certainly the prevailing theory, for obvious reasons – it wouldn’t come as a surprise that everything was in place for a relatively quick release of the 4070 Ti. We will see next month…
Without mentioning the price tag being made, that will obviously be an important element. The hope is that we’ll see an MSRP of $699 in the US (and prices to match it elsewhere), but we’re not too optimistic that this will translate into reality. A more likely pitch for Nvidia is $749, maybe even $799, though it should clearly be less than the canceled RTX 4080 12GB which went up to $899 before the GPU was ‘unlaunched’ by Team Green (after a less than positive reception , let’s say ).
The danger of overpricing is that Nvidia will leave the door open for AMD’s incoming RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX graphics cards, due out December 13, but perhaps not in large quantities until the end of the month as rumors on Team’s side Red’s right.
If so, these new RDNA 3 GPUs from AMD will pretty much compete against both the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080, so Nvidia may want to take the opportunity to price a little more competitively and get some seasonal gains. goodwill back from gamers.
Goodwill that Team Green is still quickly losing, between the outrageous pricing for custom third-party models of the RTX 4080, and with the RTX 4090, the whole cable meltdown controversy, which doesn’t really help Nvidia’s case either – certainly not now that reported cases are over 50.
