Former Rangers pitcher Kohei Arihara signs with the Japan Hawks

TOKYO — The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks have signed pitcher Kohei Arihara, who played for Texas Rangers last season.

The team did not announce the terms of the contract on Tuesday.

“I’m honored to have the chance to play for this team,” Arihara said in a quote posted on the team’s website. “I will do my best to contribute to a championship.”

Arihara played for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters before spending two seasons in Texas, USA. His career was hampered by surgery on his right shoulder. During his MLB career, he had a 3-7 record.
